What Regress checks
Regress compares the structure of each page, not its pixels. A new timestamp won't wake you up. A missing form field will.
You get an alert for
- Form fields added, removed or changed type
- Buttons and actions removed or disabled
- Table columns added or removed
- Navigation links added or removed
- API responses changing shape
- Pages appearing or disappearing
- Login no longer working
Regress ignores
- Timestamps, dates and counts
- Different rows or sort order
- Copy and placeholder text
- Usernames and other dynamic content
- Which navigation item is active
- Pagination position
Severity
- Critical
- Something users rely on broke, like a checkout form losing a field.
- Warning
- A noticeable change, like a navigation link or table column going missing.
- Info
- A small structural change, like a new element being added.
- None
- Data changed but the structure didn't. Nothing to do.
